We are seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic individual to join our Advancement team as a Director of Philanthropy. The candidate will work alongside and maintain a strong relationship with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to grow, steward and solicit donors, corporate partners and volunteers and regularly review stewardship strategies and event/mail appeal timelines, and provide feedback on communication strategies for engagement, giving opportunities and fundraising priorities. The position reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer, and general office hours are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. However, workday lengths for exempt employees are determined primarily by their current workloads and event season. Hybrid/working from home 1-2 days per week is negotiable after 90-day review.
Responsibilities include:
- Build, research and manage a portfolio of key prospects, as defined alongside the CAO, to move toward stewardship and solicitation stages.
- Provide leadership in fund development, including stewardship, donor engagement, major gifts, campaigns, annual giving, events, grants, moves management and sponsorships, with a daily focus on personal fundraising portfolio.
- Provide leadership in cultivating new donors and sponsors for events, and help department increase annual giving by 5% each fiscal year with a total of 850 new donors.
- Identify, evaluate, cultivate and solicit large philanthropic commitments to support The Lord’s Place (TLP) mission and core strategies.
- Help to create next generation giving program to entice younger demographics to give and get involved.
- Implement and oversee a strategic fundraising plan that meets the annual development goal of the agency with input from the Chief Advancement Officer.
- Provide creativity, initiative, energy and imagination in helping to create and execute comprehensive advancement goals.
- Embrace the different trends associated with gift giving, while understanding the need to maintain traditional fundraising principles.
- Conduct prospect research and recommend ways to engage new donors.
- Write and create new monthly acknowledgement letters and oversee the preparation.
- Oversee and expand an ongoing stewardship program with a goal of retaining 60% of donors annually.
- Review lapsed donor reports and recommend stewardship and solicitation requests.
- Add donor constituent actions and help to keep Raiser’s Edge NXT updated.
- Assist the CAO in all agency public relations and marketing efforts alongside the CEO and public relations consultant.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CAO.
Requirements include:
- College degree with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree, CFRE preferred.
- Minimum of five years of advancement and leadership experience with progressive responsibility and proven track record in fundraising or non-profit management.
- Track record of personally soliciting and closing gifts of at least four figures.
- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT.
- The ability to multi-task and think strategically and analytically.
- Be passionate about the opportunity and challenge of fundraising and social causes.
- Comprehend the impact of social media and marketing on Advancement.
- Experience working with a diversified group including Board Members, community leaders, staff and clients.
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Supervisory skill highly recommended, but not required.
